Un-luck of the un-Irish? - 3.18 #sol16 Story Challenge

March 17, 2016,
the day I started my car
only to be met
by the incriminating wink
of the Check Engine light,
also turned out to be the day
that the the heat at home
stopped working,
which happened to be the day
the weather turned
(temperatures plunging 30 degrees
as 10 inches of snow accumulated),
coincidentally the same day
the neighbor fell
and broke her hip,
requiring the cops come
demolish her door,
which all might've been more manageable
had a power outage
not ditched us in darkness
just after nine at night,
leaving us little choice
but to retreat to bed,
hoping the next day
might not unravel so disastrously,
only to realize
the fireplace's snuffed pilot light
might be just one more troubling sign.

  1. You know the saying, "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"? Yikes. Sounds like a pretty rough day! Well...maybe instead, "The sun will come out tomorrow!"

  2. Unreal! And so wrong on a day known for luck. Loved the line about the wink of the check engine light.... Really well-crafted... A day you will not soon forget!

  3. And if not for all that, you wouldn't have written such an entertaining slice about such a rotten day. Thanks for the giggle..

  4. this might just be my favorite post of all time. I hate that your day was so rotten, no-good, very-bad, but you created a fabulous slice with all that! sorry about your day & your writing is amazing.
