- Running or bicycling or just walking. (Is that all three? I'm counting those as one!) When engaged in these activities, it never takes long before the only thoughts I have are about the turning of my legs, a rhythm that keeps me moving forward.
- Cooking. During my last trip to the supermarket, I refrained from hoarding. I purchased just one can of hominy, for example, though it was 110 ounces -- the size of a can of paint. The self-care part is now parked in the fridge and freezer, where I have four containers of posole leftovers.
- Reading. Not the news. Well, I read the news, too, but my leading self-care reading revolves around fiction. At the moment: Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All by Laura Ruby. Three-quarters done, I'm still not clear where this story might head next. While the title sounds creepily fitting for today's circumstances, the tale still feels to me like a welcome escape from our present.

Spring Fling Thing - 3.23 #sol20 Story Challenge
Leigh Ann Eck is hosting a blog party, and I'm in. Or I will be once I conjure three self-care ideas. Fortunately, several are currently top of mind.

It’s still a bit too cold for me to ride my bike, but I’m watching for the opportunity, so that’s a good self-care option. I’m going to leave all the hominy for you. You’re welcome. I read Wolves a couple months ago as an audiobook and enjoyed it. Reading has been a struggle of late. I’m working on that today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the party! I agree with all three of your tips! My only problem with cooking is all of the eating I am doing too! I started reading The Librarian from Auschwitz and there are many lines that have struck me during this time - not that the suffering is anything close!! I have Thriiteen Doorways but have not read it yet. Thanks again for joining.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your three self-care ideas. Exercise is a definite. Interesting food is a must (although I am at this moment snacking on potato chips). And yes, reading. I am having trouble concentrating on reading; maybe I should switch over to your recommendation. I've been trying to read On Earth We are Briefly Gorgeous but it's been a bit of a struggle. Maybe it's not the book's fault.
ReplyDeleteThose are all very good self-care ideas! I feel the need to escape my house(ha!) so I like listening to podcasts while I walk. :)
ReplyDeleteHad to put in some work for this gift. First. Had to look up posole because I couldn’t imagine 110 ounces Of hominy that wasn’t grits. Also had to look up a book with such a fascinating title. Wolves seem to be a recent trend.
ReplyDeleteExercise, eat well, enjoy something beautiful: what a great recipe for self-care. Wondering how you use all that hominy? Recipes?
